Daniel Accaputo represents SumUp, a card payments business that gives small operators a way to take payment without the cost and paperwork of a traditional merchant facility.

The kit is the familiar part: card readers and point of sale hardware that let a sole trader or a small shop accept tap, chip and phone payments, with the money and the reporting handled behind it. SumUp works across more than thirty countries and launched in Australia in 2023.

It tends to suit the businesses that get quoted the worst rates: market stalls, mobile trades, cafes, salons, and anyone who needs to take a payment standing in someone else’s driveway.
